BHMY performed at the Kingston Borough Bands Tattoo today. We were on first and brought out a band of 47 players!
We performed our display which had been thrown together in a few short weeks and also included at least 13 children/adults that have never marched a display before. They were all fantastic.
Our thanks go to the organisers of #KBBT for putting on the event. The audience were fab and we enjoyed meeting other band members.
There were some blasts from the past there today too – namely members of Talbot and Bournemouth Scout Band who went to the 1997 TYMBA band camp at Folkestone with some of us old BHMY members!!!! Was interesting chatting about that like it was yesterday!!

The quiet decline of music in British schools
Barely one in 20 pupils took music GCSE last year. How much longer will the world dance to Britain’s tune?

Two years ago and all except one are still in the band. A lot of the junior members pictured here are now senior members responsible for teaching the current group of cadets that are coming through.
Our cadets marching in with our junior members. You won’t see any of our seniors because they’re all sitting on the edge of the hall chatting…! (And avoiding drill like the plague!)
The youngsters did brilliantly – in training for parade distractions!!
Now is a great time to join us! New cadet members are making great progress. The band is steadily growing in size, sounding great and enjoying what we do!
If you know anyone that might be interested in coming along, get in touch.
