Andrew Lloyd Webber calls for better Government support for the arts in schools
Andrew Lloyd Webber has called on the Government to support arts education, saying “every penny you spend on the arts comes back many many fold”. The plea comes as the composer revealed he gave more than £4 million to projects across the country to pay for musical instruments and lessons …
BHMY is at its largest, ever!!
We are taking a band of 48 to the Kingston Borough Band Tattoo on the 12th May. We have 4 playing Main Band members missing that day due to exams etc and our Bandmaster Paul is not playing either.
It will be a first time arena performance for at least 13 members aged between 8 and 12, with some members that have also moved on to new instruments.
Our routine has been put together in just 4 weeks since our concert at the beginning of March.
Proud isn’t a strong enough word!
Band being put through their paces this evening. Our youngest members are doing so well. It’s a lot to learn: stay in step, stay in line across the band, whilst not looking round, stay in step, stay behind the person in front of you, stay in step, remember to counter march, stay in step, get back in step…and as if that’s not enough – now play an instrument you’ve been learning for less than a year…..! 😱😱
Tonight BHMY will be rehearsing once more, putting our Cadets through their paces and training them up for the Main Band.
All sections will be working hard on both music and drill so that we are the best we can be.
Why not come along and find out more. There’s nothing to lose.
BHMY has vacancies in our woodwind sections. We are particularly interested in alto sax and clarinet players. Ideally those that already play!
We take general beginners from the age of 7 and new members are welcome to join at any Thursday band practice.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Thursday is band night here in Burgess Hill where even our youngest Main Band members are stepping up to the plate and supporting each other.
It’s not just about the music 🎶 🎵 it’s so much more, and these two have already learnt so much in their short band career.
We have an open door policy – come and join us, it could be the best decision you’ll ever make.
Band last night was well attended considering we had originally decided to have a break over Easter!!
BHMY likes to keep members and parents on their toes!
Numbers are great here at BHMY but there’s still room for more!
We are recruiting – continuous education and career progression, instrumental training of the highest quality, extensive travel, sports and adventurous training opportunities. www.royalnavy.mod.uk/rmbs
