Halesowen Marching Band Championships
On the 29th June the band competed in the Halesowen Band Championships, given that we are in Sussex and Halesowen is near Dudley in the west midlands this meant an early start!
A fairly eventful start to the day ensued when the Bandmasters car, towing a trailer with all the uniforms broke down at the services. Fortunately it wasn’t too serious and another parent went back to the services and took over the towing duties!
The contest itself was very good, it is one event at an armed forces event which ensured we had a really great crowd. It makes performing so much more worthwhile when a good, appreciative audience is applauding! Our thanks and congratulations go to the organisers for putting on such a great event.
Our performance was OK but such great opposition as 17th Tonbridge and Thurmaston it was going to be a tough contest!
We didn’t have long to wait for the muster which helps keep the nerves in check!
In the end it turned out a very good day for Burgess Hill Marching Youth, we won Best Wind, Turnout, Display, Percussion Overall National Class Winners
But as important as contest wins are some things feel more important… We were voted Most Entertaining band by the audience, which considering many of the audience members were servicemen and ex-servicemen feels especially good.
